Redactrice Newsweek: “Zionistische huilebalken hebben geen banden met Israël”

Eind vorige maand verscheen op de website van Newsweek Middle East een artikel over de Palestijnse staat. De auteur van het artikel klaagt dat Google niet langer de term ‘Palestina’ gebruikt op kaarten, schrijft de krant Times of Israel.

Toen op de sociale media een discussie losbarstte over het artikel, schreef redactrice van Newsweek Leila Hatoum dat de Oost-Europese Joden geen historische band hebben met het Midden-Oosten.

Hatoum zegt dat zij en Newsweek na de publicatie werden aangevallen door ‘zionistische trollen’ omdat ze officiële documenten had getoond waaruit blijkt dat Palestina al sinds 1924 bestaat.

Chazarië

“In tegenstelling tot de meeste zionistische trollen ben ik niet ingehuurd door een corporatie, heb ik geen dollartekens in mijn ogen en boeit het me niet wat zionisten van me denken,” voegde ze toe. “Ik ben Semiet, in tegenstelling tot de meeste zionistische huilebalken. Ik kom hier vandaan.”

Hatoum zei ook dat Asjkenazische Joden geen Semieten zijn en niets te zoeken hebben in Israël. De Asjkenazische Joden komen oorspronkelijk uit Chazarië in Oost-Europa en Centraal-Azië en bekeerden zich eeuwen terug massaal tot het jodendom, schreef ze in 2013.

Geen Israëlisch bloed

“Jullie moeten weten dat Oost-Europese Joden Chazaarse stammen waren die zich bekeerden tot het jodendom,” zei Hatoum. “Ze hebben geen Israëlisch bloed.”

Na alle ophef twitterde ze: “Ik wil alle trollen bedanken. Heb in tijden niet zo gelachen.” In juli 2014 schreef Hatoum op Twitter dat Hitler een joodse moeder had.

Opheft

De Amerikaanse president Obama heeft bij de VN gevraagd dat Israël de bezetting van Palestina opheft. Hij probeerde de afgelopen acht jaar om Israël en Palestina richting een akkoord te drijven, maar tot nu toe is hij daar niet in geslaagd.

De secretaris-generaal van de VN Ban Ki-moon bestempelde het conflict tussen de Israëliërs en de Palestijnen als ‘waanzin’. De kans op een tweestatenoplossing wordt kleiner.
